Forgiveness & Reconciliation

Prayer and Scripture for letting go and moving forward.

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God asks of us. If you are carrying a wound caused by someone else, or struggling with guilt over something you have done, this page is for you. Forgiveness does not mean what happened was okay. It means you are choosing not to carry it alone anymore.

Today’s Scripture & Prayer

Scripture for Today

"Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."

(Colossians 3:13)

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

(1 John 1:9)

"And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."

(Ephesians 4:32)

A Prayer for Loneliness

Forgiveness is a process, not a moment. It is okay if it takes time. It is okay if you need to pray this prayer more than once. God is patient with you as you work through it.

Lord, this is hard.

I am carrying something I do not want to carry anymore.

Help me release it to You.

Where I have been hurt, bring healing.

Where I have caused hurt, bring repentance and repair.

Give me a heart willing to forgive.

Not because it was okay, but because You have forgiven me.

Carry what I cannot.

Amen.

While You Wait:

Separate forgiveness from reconciliation. You can forgive someone without restoring a relationship. Both are real choices, and they are not the same thing.

Pray for the person who hurt you. Not to excuse them to free yourself.

Receive forgiveness too. If you are carrying guilt, God's forgiveness is real and available to you now.

7-Day Mini Plan

Day 1: Read Colossians 3:12–14. Pray the prayer above.

Day 2: Name what you are carrying. Write it down and give it to God.

Day 3: Read Matthew 18:21–22. Ask God for a willing heart.

Day 4: Pray for the person who hurt you. Just one sentence is enough.

Day 5: Read 1 John 1:9. Receive God's forgiveness for yourself.

Day 6: Read Psalm 51. Ask God for a clean heart.

Day 7: Take one step toward release, a prayer, a letter you do not send, or a conversation with a trusted person.

Common Questions

Does forgiving someone mean I have to trust them again?

No. Forgiveness is internal. Trust is rebuilt over time and is not always possible or safe.

What if I do not feel like forgiving?

Start with willingness. Pray: "Lord, make me willing to forgive." That is an honest place to begin.

What if I need to ask someone for forgiveness?

Ask God first. Then, if it is safe and appropriate, consider going to the person. A counselor or pastor can help you discern when and how.
